Basic Testing Methods for Coreless Motors
Generally speaking, when purchasing coreless motors from a supplier, they must be tested first before they can be used in products or put into production. Below is the general operating procedure using a coreless motor tester.
1. Motor Speed Detection
During actual operation, first determine whether the motor to be tested is a 3-pole or 5-pole DC motor. Check whether the M3 indicator light is displaying the corresponding status. Additionally, if operating in M0 mode, pay attention to the fact that the allowable deviation value should be symmetrical between the upper and lower limits. The middle value between the upper and lower limits should be able to reflect the typical value for that specific motor model.
2. Insulation Resistance Testing
Insert the red and black test leads into the insulation test jacks (red and black holes, respectively). Connect the clips to the motor housing and one pole of the motor. Observe whether the insulation over-limit indicator light illuminates.

3. Waveform Output Display
Connect the oscilloscope signal leads to the waveform output terminal and the signal input terminal of the oscilloscope. Adjust the oscilloscope to observe the motor’s current waveform. Generally speaking, this oscilloscope setup cannot be used to detect the axial play (end play) of the coreless motor, nor can it detect the motor’s internal resistance at the point of maximum axial play.
